Short answer
Open Protect & Clean and add the PDF you want to inspect. Read the Document details report, choose Remove hidden details and create a new PDF copy.
Open the new PDF in another reader. Check Document Properties and review the visible pages before sharing it.

What PDF metadata is
Metadata is information stored about a document rather than the words and pictures shown on its pages. It can describe who created the file, what it is called or which software wrote it. A reader often shows these values under Document Properties.
What this cleanup reviews
- Title, author and subject
- Keywords
- Creator and producer
- Custom details reported by the tool
The report lists the kinds of details found, not their private values, and there are no per-field cleanup checkboxes. Remove hidden details clears supported document information and document/page XMP metadata. Saving can add new technical producer or date values. This is not a promise to remove comments, attachments, layers, old revisions or every private data type.
A property can disappear while a name remains
Suppose Document Properties lists Author: Example Author. Cleaning that field can leave it blank while the words “Example Author” remain on the cover page. Inspect both the properties and the pages. Removing a document property does not remove visible text.

Inspect first
Open the source and write down the properties you expect to remove.
You should see: the current title, author, or other details in Document Properties.

Review the app report
In Protect & Clean, choose Select PDF and read the Document details report. If the source is locked, enter its known Current PDF password and choose Refresh report. Choose Remove hidden details.
You should see: the categories of supported details found, such as author or title, without their values.

Create a new file
Choose a separate name and destination, then select Create PDF copy.

Reopen elsewhere
Use another PDF reader to inspect Document Properties and the visible pages.
You should see: the cleaned supported fields and all expected page content.
Verify the privacy result
- The original sensitive values are absent from the supported fields; distinguish any new technical producer or date values written while saving.
- The PDF still opens and every required page is present.
- Visible names, images, annotations and attachments received a separate review.
- The cleaned copy, not the original, is the file prepared for sharing.
What metadata removal does not do
It does not redact visible content, erase every hidden object or provide forensic sanitization. If a secret appears on a page, use a verified redaction workflow. If broader hidden-data removal is required, use a tool whose documented scope covers those exact data types. Osenpa PDF Tools processes the PDF locally; its startup update check and Support-page request do not include your document.
