Short answer
Open the Audio or Video tools in Just Converter, add a recording and choose an output format. Enter Trim start and Trim end as hh:mm:ss, choose a separate output folder and review preflight before running. Trim end is a position in the original recording, not the duration of the new clip.
Before you start
- Just Converter on Windows and one supported audio or video file.
- A player for checking the source duration and exported clip.
- A separate writable output folder and enough space for the new file.
Start here
Choose a short sample
Play the original and note the section you want to keep. For practice, use a recording longer than 45 seconds and plan to retain the section from 10 to 40 seconds. Keep the original available.
Open the appropriate media tool
Choose Audio or Video, add the sample and select an output format supported for that input. For an ordinary video clip, choose a video output; for an audio-only result, choose an audio output. Check any selected audio track.
Set the two time positions
Enter 00:00:10 in Trim start and 00:00:40 in Trim end. This requests about 30 seconds, not a 40-second clip. The end must be later than the start. Leave start blank to begin at the start of the recording, or leave end blank to continue to its end.
Review the output settings
Choose a separate output folder. Review format, quality, output name and collision behavior, then inspect preflight and start conversion. Trimming is part of a conversion job; do not assume it copies the original compressed stream unchanged.
Play the saved clip
Read the per-file result, open the successful output and inspect the beginning and end. For the example, expect approximately 30 seconds. Check speech, audio synchronization, the selected track and picture quality before sharing it.
Check your result
- The output begins and ends at the intended part of the recording.
- The duration matches the requested interval within the format's timing precision.
- The intended audio is present and synchronized with video where applicable.
- The original remains available and the new file plays in its destination application.
End time is not clip length
For a clip that starts at 00:02:00 and should last 30 seconds, set the end to 00:02:30. Use positions within the source recording and keep the end later than the start.
Begin with one file. A shared range may be suitable for one recording but extend beyond another file in a batch. Review source lengths before applying the same trim settings to several inputs.
Trimming, conversion and compression
Trimming removes the portions outside the chosen interval from the output. Format and quality settings still affect the result, so a shorter clip is not guaranteed to have a particular file size.
If the whole recording is needed, trimming is not a substitute for compression. Keep the full source and choose an appropriate quality setting or file-size workflow instead. This guide does not promise lossless or frame-exact editing.
If the trim fails
Check the hh:mm:ss entries, the source duration and whether the end is later than the start. Read the actual error for unsupported formats, missing components or destination permissions; changing the filename extension does not convert a file.
If you cancel, inspect Results before retrying. A new run repeats conversion for the selected input; it does not resume at the last encoded frame. Keep any successful files from a batch and use the retry guide to avoid processing them unnecessarily.
