Short answer
Add one M4A file to Just Converter and choose MP3. Read the compatibility check, then choose from the audio settings available for that file.
Save to a new folder and compare the sound, duration, tags, and file size with the source.
What changes during M4A to MP3 conversion
M4A is a container used for audio; MP3 is a widely supported lossy audio format. Lossy means some sound information is discarded to reduce size. Converting an already compressed source again can reduce quality, and a larger MP3 bitrate cannot restore detail that is missing from the M4A.
Before you start
- Keep the M4A and test a copy.
- Confirm the player or service requires MP3.
- Use headphones or speakers that make defects easy to hear.
- Choose a separate writable output folder.
Convert the audio
Add one M4A
Select the audio task and choose MP3 as the output.
Review audio choices
Bitrate balances sound quality against file size. Keep the source or default channel and sample-rate values unless the destination requires something different. Choose whether to keep metadata and cover art. Use loudness normalization only when the destination needs it.
Read preflight
Check the output filename, destination and warnings before processing. A collision means a file with the same name already exists; choose rename, overwrite or skip deliberately.
Create and open the MP3
Wait for the per-file success result, then open the separate output in the player that will use it.
Verify the MP3
- Listen to the start, middle and end for silence, clipping or distortion.
- Compare duration and confirm that no part was trimmed accidentally.
- Check title, artist, other needed tags and cover art.
- Confirm the measured size and playback in the destination app.
Problems and limits
If the result is too large, choose a suitable lower bitrate and listen again. If it sounds worse, keep the M4A or use a less aggressive setting. Two-pass loudness normalization must finish both stages.
An audio input can be up to 500 MiB, and media can be up to 24 hours long. Conversion runs on your PC. Update and optional Supporters list requests do not include the audio file.
