Short answer
Copy puts an item on the Windows clipboard. Paste inserts it at the destination, and Win+V shows recent items.
Use Osenpa Clipboard when you need a longer, searchable history. Begin with harmless test items before keeping real content.
Copy, clipboard, history and paste
Select something and press Ctrl+C to copy it. Windows places a copy on the clipboard. Move to the destination and press Ctrl+V to paste the current clipboard item. Clipboard history is a list of items you copied earlier.
Deleting a history record does not normally delete the original file or document. However, deleting an original file can break a path reference saved in history.

- Storage behavior
- Supported items remain on the PC under the selected policy. Regular history is not encrypted. Locked Notes is separate and encrypted.
- Important limit
- A password copied while monitoring is active can enter regular history unless Pause or a tested privacy filter stops it. Local storage alone is not encryption.
Start with a safe five-minute test
Open clipboard history
Start Osenpa Clipboard from Windows. Press Alt+V. You should see the History panel and its search box. Alt+V is the default and can be changed in Settings.
Copy one harmless sentence
Type Blue kite clipboard test in a disposable
document. Select it and press Ctrl+C. Open Alt+V. You should see
a new text card containing the same sentence. Do not use a
password, one-time code, private message or payment detail.
Copy a safe link and image
Copy one public web link. Then copy one small disposable image. Open Alt+V after each copy. You should see a link card and an image card below the text test.
Open Item details
Select an item and press Space or open Item details. Check the full stored content, exact local capture time, source application, size, tags and any file or snapshot status. This view tells you more than a shortened card preview. You should see details that match the source you just used.
Paste the test item
Click an item to place it back on the clipboard, then press Ctrl+V in a disposable document. You should see the same content. Try Copy as plain text only when you need unformatted text.
Remove the test items
Delete the test items from history. Confirm that their originals in the source programs are unchanged.
Closing the panel only hides it. Use Exit from the tray when you want monitoring to stop completely.

Know which items can enter history
The app handles text, safe links, images, file or folder selections and color codes. It can keep plain text with compatible safe HTML, RTF, image or Windows file-drop data. Unknown private formats are not stored, and non-file content above 15 MiB is not retained.
Ctrl+N creates new text or a safe web link directly in History or Favorites without waiting for a copy event. You can add tags and choose whether the item is copied immediately. This does not create arbitrary file types or bypass normal link checks.
Find an older item
Search plain words first
Type the most distinctive word you remember. Put an exact phrase
in quotation marks and prefix an unwanted word with minus. For
example, "school project" -draft keeps
the phrase together and excludes draft.
Add a field only when needed
Search supports app:, type:, domain:, tag: and size:. Use the separate type and date controls for a first search. The date control includes Today, Yesterday, Last 7 days, Last 30 days, This month and All time. The search box also recognizes the bare words today and yesterday. It does not use a date: field prefix.
Verify before pasting
Read Item details before reusing old material. A search match can be outdated, belong to the wrong source or point to a file that moved after capture.

Choose the smallest useful organization tool
Pin
Pin a regular history item when it must survive routine cleanup. A pin does not encrypt the item and does not make it a separate archive.
Favorites, categories and tags
Favorites are lasting snapshots with their own title, category, color, tags and order. Categories can be renamed, recolored and reordered. Deleting a category moves its Favorites to General. Renaming, merging or deleting a tag changes organization, not the item itself.
Smart Collections
A Smart Collection is a saved query over History, Favorites or both. It can use text, source, type, date, tags, domain, size, pin, Favorite and snapshot rules. Editing or deleting it does not delete matching items.
Clipboard Stack
Clipboard Stack is an ordered queue for text, links, images and files. Prepare Next changes the Windows clipboard only. An optional direct-paste hotkey sends Ctrl+V to the foreground app; a failed paste does not advance. The current Stack is restored after an app restart, and a Stack Profile saves a named reusable copy.
Handle files and images
File path or snapshot
A copied-file record can keep only the original path or also an eligible local snapshot. A path breaks when the source moves or disappears. A snapshot uses local disk space. Snapshot choices are Off, 10, 25, 70 or 150 MiB, and the file card reports the actual state.
Copied-image editor
Open a copied image to crop, draw, add text or shapes, highlight, blur, pixelate, rotate, flip or resize. Copy, share or save the edited result as a supported image format. The original history item is not changed.
Set privacy before long-term use
Set retention
Auto-delete starts at 24 hours and can be disabled or set from 1 to 360 hours. The regular unpinned history cap starts at 1,000 and can be changed from 100 to 100,000. Pins and Favorites are protected, so the total stored count can be higher than the cap.
Use Pause and filters
Pause for 5 minutes, 15 minutes, 1 hour or indefinitely when a session should not be recorded. Filters can exclude applications, detectable private browser titles, built-in sensitive-text patterns or a tested regular expression. They are off by default and cannot guarantee that sensitive information will always be blocked.
Use Locked Notes for selected text
Regular history is not encrypted. Locked Notes is separate and encrypted. It uses a PIN or passphrase that cannot be recovered if forgotten. Optional clipboard clearing can remove the same copied secret after 15, 30, 60 or 120 seconds.
Back up before you need recovery
Automatic backup stays off until you choose a folder. Set an interval from 1 to 168 hours, retain 1 to 30 copies, then create one manual backup. Locked Notes remains encrypted in the copy; regular history remains unencrypted.
Keep a protected backup on another storage device and practice a restore with disposable items. Use JSON when you may need to import the data later. CSV is mainly a readable table.
Do not assume
- Local history is automatically encrypted.
- A privacy filter works before it is enabled and tested.
- A file path contains a recoverable copy of the file.
- A Smart Collection protects its results from cleanup.
- Closing the panel exits the app and stops monitoring.
- One backup folder on the same drive is full disaster recovery.
Checkpoint: confirm your setup
- Alt+V opens the panel and harmless test clips appear.
- Search and Item details find the expected test item.
- Retention matches how long regular history is useful.
- Pause and one enabled privacy filter pass a harmless test.
- A test file pastes in the receiving app, and its card clearly reports path-only or snapshot state.
- A manual database backup completes in a separate location.
If nothing appears after you copy
Check the tray icon and resume monitoring if it is paused. Clear the current search and filters. Then copy a harmless supported item and make sure no privacy rule blocks it.
If Alt+V does not open the panel, open the app normally and choose a different shortcut. After an unclean shutdown or a database warning, use the built-in health and recovery tools instead of replacing files by hand.
